It's Tourney Time!

The second annual Don’t Back Down NCAA Tournament is open for business. That’s right, Patrick’s reign as last year’s champ has come to an end and it’s time for someone new to ascend to the throne (I so hope it is me this time around).

Anyway, head on over to the Tournament Pick’em at Yahoo! Sports and sign up. The group name is cxliv, the password is dbd. Last year, you needed a group number, which is 105392.

I hope to see you there!

Oh my, I just don’t know what to say.

What a night though. With the exception of Memphis, which really didn’t matter, a whole lot of excitement to be sure!

I am schocked (shocked, I say) to be in such a position, and am already looking forward to next year’s tourney challenge!

    Well, that’s it.

I hand the crown to you … wear it well!

Tough day indeed, with the Ohio State loss also causing you some pain as well. Though UNC losing may indeed cause a small opening, I’m not nearly confident enough in my picking ability to start celebrating just yet!

Several scenarios could play out where you finish well.

I think that the most likely is if Duke takes out Texas in Atlanta, and then goes on to win the national championship, you’ll win by some 20 points – even if every one of my other picks wins (and only yours win where we agree).

If all the lower seeds advance (Bradley, George Mason, Georgetwon and West Virginia – how’s that for a Final Four?), we’ll actually tie. Not sure how to sort that one out.

There are of course dozens of other possibilities – and frankly, I’m amazed that I’ve still got three potential Final Four participants (including both finalists) at this point.

I’ll celebrate in another week. Maybe. ๐Ÿ™‚

Incidentally, the Yahoo! scenario generator is pretty cool for this kind of thing. At earlier rounds, it’s a bit unwieldy, but here it’s starting to get useful.

    Ouch.

The UNC loss knocks one of my final two out.

May I offer you some preliminary congratulations, and where would you like the crown sent?

First day of round two was reasonably kind, but it looks like Thursday is going to be a big day for our head-to-head competition, with me needing a big win from UCLA against Gonzaga, since I’ve already lost one Final Four team.

The UCLA game just ended, and it sure was exciting, especially at the end – the Thursday game should be as well.

In other news, some help against North Carolina would be very helpful too – but there’s tomorrow for that, as well as later in the week. I’ll take either. ๐Ÿ™‚

Ugly second day for me. According to Yahoo!, I’m showing a max possible points of 161. Most devastating was the Kansas loss to Bradley. I love it when that happens, but hate it for the bracket. You had Kansas as well, but not advancing as far as I did.

I had them in the Final Four, but thankfully not beyond that.

Couple that with the Michigan State loss to George Mason in the DC regional, and half my bracket is in shambles.

Atlanta and Minneapolis aren’t bad – but those other two are just not pretty. I’m still holding on to a 2-point lead at the moment though. Looking like last year all over again. ๐Ÿ™‚

Yes, you do have a slight lead based on the upsets. It was nuts. The Wisconsin-Milwaukee game should have been a no brainer. ๐Ÿ™

Alas, I am not concerned. I am a slow starter, but a very strong finisher. Buy tonight I am sure I’ll be in the lead for the duration ….

Well, Patrick, I guess we scared them away or something. Just you and me again. Oh well.

In any case, an interesting first night (is that ever not the case?), and I’m hanging onto a small lead. Sounds like last year, and I hope the end result isn’t the same, when you came back and clobbered me!

I got lucky on a few upsets that threw some wrenches at you – Texas A&M (12) over Syracuse (5), Alabama (10) over Marquette (7) and Wisconsin-Milwaukee (11) over Oklahoma (6).

I’m just glad that BC pulled out the win with Pacific or I would have been dead in Minneapolis. That regional could turn ugly fast.

I also have no doubt you’ll get back at me soon enough. Good luck today!

Ah-ha, sweet revenge shall be mine! Actually, I will probably be spanked again this year, because I too have followed very little of the action. In fact, the only game I’ve really watched was the BC-UNC game just the other day.

I am in this year. ๐Ÿ™‚

Good news for you … I haven’t followed much of the action this year.
