Dilbert Finance

The other day I talked about the amount of wedding bills piled up by your typical couple on their special day. About a week ago, I went into the lifestyles that seem so prevalent these days. When was it, exactly, that our lives changed so much that they revolved around these material things?

Was it when the bumper stickers first told us that The One Who Dies With the Most Toys Wins? Or perhaps when Madonna first regaled us with Material Girl?

There had to be a point when the advertising simply became too much to bear, and it probably wasn’t in last year’s <em”>Minority Report. No, it’s been going on for far longer than that.

Maybe it happened long ago (76 years, to be exact), with the invention of television. After all, it seems that only with the invention of television and the amount of time we spend in front of it that the world focused on Bigger, Better, Faster, More.

I dunno. I think I’ll just follow Scott Adams’ 9-step plan and try to stay away from eBay. That ought to keep me on the right track.
