American Idol Recap: Finale

Is it just me or is this show getting longer every year?  I really don't mean the individual episodes, but the time from the start of the show until the finale.  Of course, the individual episodes seem to be getting longer as well, and though I know it will make me seem like Scrooge, I really don't need Idol Gives Back either - way too much of my time is wasted by this show already.  If they want to give back, just give back and don't make such a big production about it.  Who are you, Jerry Lewis?

Regardless, the finale was set last week after Melinda Doolittle was sent packing.  Now we are down to two.  After Blake and Jordin do their bits, and we have another few hours of performances, we can write off another season of Idol.

American Idol Recap: Top 3

The Top 4 show saw LaKisha Jones go home last week.  Quite frankly, it could have been just about anyone, because the contestants singing songs by Barry Gibb were all pretty bad.  We can hope that they get better this week.

As is typical, the final three get to sing three songs - one chosen by the judges, one by the producers and one by themselves.  That means we could see just about anything.

American Idol Recap: Top 4

After the Idol Gives Back show Last week, both Chris Richardson and Phil Stacey were sent packing.  Back to normal this week with one contestant voted out (at least, I suspect that is what will happen).  And since two were let go last week, we're down to four.

American Idol Recap: Top 6 (Second Round)

Last week was the Idol Gives Back show, so no contestants left. This week, two will be gone.

Tonight, Jon Bon Jovi tutors the group, and everyone performs songs either from Jon's solo career or Bon Jovi. Totals will be added with last week and the two lowest scores will be headed home.

American Idol Recap: Top 6 (First Round)

Sanjaya Malakar finally left Last week, so now we are on our own.

Tonight, it's all about music that the contestants find inspirational. I don't know what that means, but we'll find out together. There isn't a coach this week.

American Idol Recap: Top 7

Last week, Haley Scarnato took the long walk home on those long legs of hers. About time.

This week, Martina McBride is the coach, to show the remaining contestants what she knows about Country Music. I'm not a big fan of country music, so this might be painful. But I'll give it a go. For you.

American Idol Recap: Top 8

Gina Glocksen left during last week's tribute to Tony Bennett, so we're down to eight. Who will stay? Who will go? Hopefully we're going to finally see a bit of action.

With Jennifer Lopez joining the show to teach the contestants a thing or two about Latin Music, it could certainly be interesting - if nothing else, we should be able to stay awake.

American Idol Recap: Top 9

Chris Sligh left last week and now we are really starting to pick up some steam, with just nine finalists remaining.

This week Tony Bennett joins the show to give the contestants a helping hand with songs that have been a part of his career. Like last week, it could be about anything.

American Idol Recap: Top 10

After the elimination last week of Stephanie Edwards, two of the twelve finalists are out, and there are only ten potential winners left (in reality, there are many fewer than that who can win this thing). Those that are here tonight can all be seen on the Idol tour later this year.

The mentor this week is Gwen Stefani, and contestants are allowed to sings songs that inspired her. In other words, it could be anything.

American Idol Recap: Top 11

Now things are rolling, and we're down to eleven. The girls are now in the majority after last week's show dropped Brandon Rogers from the competition. Not that that is a surprise.

This week, the songs come from the British Invasion.

American Idol Recap: Top 12

The audition rounds are finally over. I think those things get longer every year. Now we can get on with the real competition.

So without further ado, here are the finalists, singing the songs of Diana Ross.
