Cook Out Restaurant

The Cook Out is an interesting beast because no one can seem to figure out where they’re based. I’ve heard reports that they are out of Greensboro (NC), but they don’t seem to have a web site at this writing, and it just doesn’t seem to be anything that anyone can verify.

Nonetheless, the company is doing something right. Their down-home style, the original hamburgers “cooked outdoors style”, the 36 “creamery” premium milkshakes and the retro styling of the building has kept the double drive-thru near our house hopping since they opened nearly six months ago.

My only complaint is that the milkshakes are more like a soft-serve sundae. Nothing wrong with that, mind you, it just makes it hard to drink through the straw. The flavor is stll quite good, you understand. It’s just better eaten with a spoon.

As to the food, it’s good. I’m not a huge fan of burgers, so it’s tough to judge, but I’ve been happy enough with what I’ve had to eat, and the family seems to be okay with what they have had as well. Not earth-shattering, but not bad either. Probably worth checking out the next time you’re driving by one.

Update – thanks to Elizabeth, below, we now have an online version of Cook Out’s menu.

The cookout in Kannapolis, NC has to be the WORST Cookout I have ever experienced. Each time they get my order wrong, even though I tell them several times what I would like so there is no confucion. Complete morons at this place!!! Always rushed!!! Disrespectful employees!!! And if they make it wrong and you take it back, the idiots just scrape off the stuff you didn’t want. This Manager sucks!!! Fire her and all the employees and start all over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have 3 years Management experience and interviewed with Jason for a chance to get to work for Cookout I have heard alot of great things about Cookout. I interviewed 2 months ago never heard anything. If they dont want to hire experienced Managers they should tell them don’t leave people hanging.

Cook out started out as a great organization. Several of my family members have worked for cook out. They have always really cared about their employees…that is until they got so big they had to hire and HR team who doesn’t give a sh– about anyone. The stores aren’t as well maintained and the quality has really gone down. Morris and Jeremy have been able to step out of the picture some and enjoy all they money they’re making, but cook out has really gone down hill since then. They keep people who don’t truly care about the company and let go those that do.
But, I do love the food. Sometimes you have to think about what made your company so great to progress the way you have and go back to what made you successful

PLEASE BRING COOKOUT TO CHARLESTON, WEST VIRGINIA. I AM CERTAIN CHARLESTON COULD SUSTAIN AT LEAST 3 TO 4 LOCATIONS QUITE EASILY!

I noticed that the person above mentioned that he was having problems communicating to upward management. I wish you better luck than I had! I had the worst experience at the Cookout in Wilmington and proceeded to try the Jacksonville restaurant after the fact. I tried on two separate occasions to talk to a district or area manager! I was given Tommy’s name because he is apparently the district manager and Brian, the HR guy or area manager’s name and number. I tried to contact Brian on a few occasions but never got a response! I never got Tommy’s number but I did speak to him finally on my third visit to the restaurant! This is just part of the run around you will get while trying to voice a complaint or handle any issues you might have!! I did finally speak to Tommy which was a complete joke! I honestly believe my 6 year old son could be more polite and caring! I honestly felt like he was accusing me of something that I had done wrong! All in all, I was just trying to voice my unhappiness about a horrible experience! I was hoping to possibly give them some useful feedback! In the beginning, I was unhappy about a completely messed up $80 order and very rude employees! Now, I am furious and have no respect for the cookout restaurants, at least the ones in “Tommy’s area”! I will not be spending a dime at any of them and advise anybody else who reads this the same! Good luck to the future customers:)
    Sincerely,
    John M.
